From June 2009 till March 2019, renewable energy contribution to power generation in Iran was about 3 billion kWH which resulted in reducing 2 million tones of Greenhouse gases emission. Accordingly, 855 million cubic meters of fossil fuel and 663 million liters of water were saved.
Nowadays, 424 MW renewable energy power plants are under construction and installed base is about 706 MW.
Based on published statistics, renewable energy has created 43 thousands of job opportunities and total amount of private sector investment has been reached by 2.9 billion USD.
The contribution of different types of renewable energy power plant to power generation in Iran is as follows,
- Solar power plant: 43%
- Wind farm: 41%
- Small scale hydro power plants: 13%
- Others: 3%
